Now Hiring: REGIONAL WATER QUALITY COORDINATOR
Seeking a Regional Water Quality Coordinator to coordinate a portfolio of programs related to water quality, stormwater management, and infrastructure. Supported by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Southern Tier 8 assists the 8-county region and the Broome Tioga Stormwater Coalition (BTSC) with community programming, infrastructure mapping, and water quality initiatives. Current program activities and the incumbent’s workload are expected to include:
- Provide technical assistance to municipalities in the Broome Tioga Stormwater Coalition, including ensuring compliance with MS4 stormwater permit and assisting with carrying out their stormwater management plans, and MS4 audits.
- Develop new and engaging public education and involvement activities to promote healthy stormwater practices.
- Assist NYS DEC and regional entities with infrastructure planning, including assisting communities in aligning resources, submitting grant requests, and capacity building.
- Coordinate the BTSC MS4 stormwater asset mapping initiative. Maintain a digital stormwater sewershed map, working in partnership with Broome County GIS and municipalities; including the mapping of outfalls, illicit discharges, green infrastructure projects, and watershed/sewershed features, in accordance with NYSDEC requirements, and assist BTSC municipalities with mapping needs.
- Coordinate with regional partners on projects and initiatives to enhance regional water quality.
About the Organization:
The Southern Tier 8 Regional Board is the Local Development District (LDD) for the Appalachian Regional Commission and serves the counties of Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Tioga, and Tompkins in Upstate, NY.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, environmental studies, public administration, natural resources management, GIS, or closely related field with at least 4 years of experience, or a Master’s Degree in relevant fields with 2 years of experience. Working knowledge of GIS, Esri products, and stormwater management is preferred.
