The Regional Board is offering this live program on December 2nd at 11:30am and we hope you can make it!

New York State enacted the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act in 2019. The statute requires an 85-percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a net-zero economy by 2050, while maintaining a focus on climate justice, a just transition to a clean-energy economy, grid reliability and state competitiveness.  The statute also includes ambitious requirements for improvements in energy efficiency and deployment of renewable sources of electricity.

The Climate Action Council is currently finalizing the scoping plan to achieve the required reductions. and must finalize the scoping plan by the end of 2022. Mark Lowery will describe the statutory requirements, and the process of developing the final scoping plan. The presentation will include an overview of the various strategies recommended by the Council to achieve the required greenhouse gas reductions, and their potential costs and benefits.
